About SMICTSI SOCIETY OF MINIMALLY INVASIVE CARDIOVASCULAR AND THORACIC SURGEONS OF INDIA In this era of technological revolution where everything is micro sized and nano sized, Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery also known as “KEY-HOLE” cardiac surgery is a highly technologically advanced form of cardiac surgery which involves very small incision (as small as 2 inches) for performing complex cardiac surgeries like bypass surgery, valve replacement, aortic surgery and surgeries for congenital heart defects. This form of surgery is being practised at very few centres in India with only a few surgeons expertise in it. With Dr.Yugal K Mishra as the Founder President, Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons of India has been constituted in our country with the aim of creating a national level platform to discuss, learn and direct exchange of technology, techniques and new ideas amongst leading cardiac surgeons with tremendous experience in the field of minimally invasive cardiovascular and thoracic surgery in India and all over the world. Inaugural conference of Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons of India (SMICTSI) took place on 6th and 7th of August, 2016 at Aerocity in the Clean City - Green City New Delhi, a symbol of country’s rich past and thriving present. It was attended by more than 320 cardiac surgeons from India and all over the world. The programme consisted of exciting two days of impressive didactic scientific presentations and posters supplemented with “Live on Box” cases and video presentations. Star highlighting the program was the Workshop session. Saturday, 6th August, the frst day of the conference was kicked off by ‘Spectrum of Minimally Invasive Aortic Valve Surgery’, in the morning session with leading cardiac surgeons Dr.VinayakBapat (UK), Dr.Malakh Shrestha (Germany) and Dr.Chirojit Mukherjee (Cardiac anaesthesia, Germany) as speakers. This session was chaired by Dr. T.S Mahant, Dr. R.M. Mathur and Dr S.K. Sinha from India. This was followed by Honoured Guest Lecture by Dr. V.A. Subramanian, Founder and past President ISMICS, USA. Following this Key Note address was delivered by none other than NobleLauriate Honourable Kailash Satyarthi Ji. The evening session covered the ‘Spectrum of minimally invasive Mitral valve surgery’ with Dr. Sreekumar Subramanian (USA), Dr.TheodorosKofidis (Singapore) and Dr. V.A. Subramanian (USA) as speakers and Live on Box case by Dr.PirozeDavierwala (Germany). This was followed by a BIG DEBATE on Minimally invasive cardiac surgery by Dr.VivekJawali and Conventional cardiac surgery by Dr. O.P. Yadav. In the evening Inauguration of the conference was done by Union Minister Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of Law and Justice, and Shri Anil Madhav Dave, Minister of State Environment, Forest and Climate change. This was followed by felicitation ceremony to honour the stalwarts in the field of cardiac surgery for their years of outstanding contribution to cardiac surgery in India and abroad. The honoured awardees were Dr. Naresh Trehan, Dr. Suresh Joshi and Dr.VivekJawali. Sunday, 7th August, highlights include spectrum of Minimally invasive Coronary Surgery, point of view on Coronary surgery in 2020, Evolving Technology with polymeric heart valve and Minimally invasive treatment of Heart Failure. This was followed by exquisite Workshop session on Wire Skills in Trans catheter Aortic Valve Replacement and Endovascular Stenting along with TEE (Trans Esophageal Echocardiography) for surgeons. The conference also had a large scale Industry Exhibition with the globally leading companies showcased their latest innovations and technology which are available and being used all over the world. With the presence of best faculty from the country and across the world the meeting was one of the most exciting days of education and interaction, a united step taken towards technological advancement and gaining its perfection. The mission of the Society is to identify innovative cardiothoracic techniques and technologies that will minimize risk to patients and improve recovery times, then educate surgeons in the safe use of these techniques and technologies. SMICTSI is committed to lead and promote innovation and technological advancement in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery through scientific analysis and education fulfilling its mission with these programs. |
